The amounts for good causes from the sales of National Lottery tickets are calculated and retained in the National Lottery Fund each week and transferred by the Regulator to the Exchequer every two months.

The amounts disclosed in the graph below are the total amounts transferred from the Fund to the Central Exchequer for good causes in each calendar year since the commencement of the Licence. The amounts raised for good causes in respect of the sales in each calendar year can be found in our Data and Publications section. 

* The transfers in 2016 of €219m included €7m in respect of historical sums carried forward in the National Lottery.

† The transfers in 2020 of €270m included an amount of €16.1 million in respect of historical expired unclaimed prizes.
